July 5, 2014 Nice to hear from you , at CETRUD we are fine, but after all the floods in Kasese and Karusandara floods did not affect us at all. We are happy that we moved from the old site to the new site.
Am glad to hear that your are progressing in your plans to tour Kasese next year. We are all excited that you will be coming. After looking into the list of people who are proposing to come, am sure it will be a very interesting and useful group of delegates. We as hosts (am not talking on behalf of Kasese friends but on behalf of CETRUD), we are very excited and happy to host you during your stay in Kasese.
Thank you so much
Godfrey D. Kasozi

CETRUD Property Safe in floods, Seeds Lost
Godfrey Kasozi, Director of CETRUD Center for Environment Technology and Rural Development in Kasese, reports that because CETRUD was moved to a new property this past year, they were safe in the recent flooding. He notes that the previous property was severely flooded last month and CETRUD would have been severly damaged if still located there..
However, a critical shipment of seeds for replanting their crops, donated by Santa Cruz supporter Rene's Garden, was damaged during transportation from Santa Cruz to Uganda, and completely ruined.
Kasozi says replacement for the seeds will cost $3,000 and requests donations. He will be taking out loans
to purchase more seeds in Uganda, since seeds are critical for their goals of becoming self-sufficient.
Donations may be made through Santa Cruz Sister Cities.

November 2013 -- A group of Santa Cruz citizens from the “Friends of Kasese” group have just formed a nonprofit organization "Friends of CETRUD" to support the work of Godfrey Kasozi’s educational center, CETRUD, Center for Environment Technology and Rural Development in Kasese, Uganda. Upon graduating in 1999 from UCSC’s “Farm” organic farming internship program: CASFS Center for Agriculture and Sustainable Food Systems, Kasozi founded CETRUD with his home village.
He says it currently trains about 2,000 Ugandan farmers each year in organic farming techniques. CETRUD also does many other educational programs for the community, including AIDS orphan caretakers. Kasozi has frequently visited Santa Cruz area networking with supporters here who have been financially supporting CETRUD. CETRUD is a Ugandan nonprofit organization (NGO) but Kasozi has been seeking a suitable U.S. nonprofit organization to accept donations for CETRUD.
Santa Cruz Sister Cities has qualified for the past two years to accept tax-deductible donations for CETRUD since CETRUD’s work is within the Sister Cities mission purposes. But even better is for CETRUD to have its own qualifying U.S. nonprofit support agency. The U.S. CETRUD support organization incorporated July 3, 2013 with Deb Abbott, Bill Garraway, Marsha Hudson, Hank Olson and Gail Brenner, Howard Van Elgort as board members.
Anyone interested in CETRUD’s work to become members of the organization please contact one of the board members (contact Peggy for their contact info).
