from Rotary International's Water and Sanitation projects group
December 5th, 2013 Dear Rotarian, [after Rotary eradicates Polio worldwide]... How will we maintain Rotary's image as a pre-eminent humanitarian organization? It could be through WASH - water, sanitation and hygiene. This Area of Focus already attracts the greatest interest in our Rotary Foundation grant programs. Many clubs in developing countries are already involved in WASH. They are planning major programs, sometimes exceeding a million dollars, comprising a number of smaller, integrated projects. These programs should qualify for Global and Packaged grants. They will receive parallel funding from outside foundations and corporations. One such initiative is in Uganda where all 74 clubs are working together as the Uganda Rotary Water Plus (URWP) program to provide safe water, sanitation and hygiene to over one million people. ... Other examples.... in Mali, India, Turkey, Thailand, Philippines, Tanzania, Guatemala and Papua New Guinea where, funded by The Rotary Foundation, teams of Rotarians have prepared needs assessments as a basis for requests for Global Grants. ... Please contact [email protected] to tell us where you would like to work. We'll put you in touch with the Rotary leaders in that country or district. Yours in Rotary, Bill Boyd, Chair - Water and Sanitation Rotary Action Group [Peggy's NOTE: No need for help, We ARE ALREADY in touch with the Rotary leaders in Kasese, Uganda, with an enthusiastic start on collaborating together!] ------------------------------------_ NOTE: In August, Kasese Rotary installed a public toilet (below, photos at right) (message from Rotary International Water and Sanitation Group] HAPPY World Toilet Day - November 19th! World Toilet Day is observed annually on 19 November. This international day of action aims to break the taboo around toilets and draw attention to the global sanitation challenge. For information, ideas, or to join in, see www.worldtoiletday.org Join hundreds of thousands of people "who give a shit" ! Sept 29, Dear all, I loved this article send by one our friends. This was during our visit to Aalborg, Denmark. Our friends from Aalborg are arriving today in Kasese for the return visit. I will receive them at Kasese Airport at 1:30pm. Together we shall make Kasese a better place to live in. Mayor Godfrey [He later wrote that Aalborg Denmark and Kasese have signed a memorandum of understanding to become Sister Cities.] Sept 21, ...I am busy today mobilizing parents to take children for polio immunization. Mayor Godfrey FROM MAYOR GODFREY AND KASESE ROTARY Please receive some pics for the hand over of the toilet by our District Governor 9211 Emanuel Katongole. Dear all i do hope you will enjoy the slides! -- Albert Muhwezi Aug 5, from Mayor Godfrey (photos at right) ..yesterday 6th Aug, our District Governor visited our club. we took the opportunity to hand over a toilet constructed with flood donation from the RC Bram Hall and RC Wihchester in Uk.it costed US$5000. it was another nice day for us to witness Rotary fullfilling her work of serving humanity. do you know that the first Rotary project was a public toilet. attached are some photos. --Mayor Godfrey BK Kabbyanga Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary -- Sent $813 to Kasese Rotary for flood relief. -- Raised $1,200 in October from their first annual "Changing Wine into Water" Wine Tasting Fundraiser in Fall 2013 for a Kasese water pipe project bringing clean water to 90 people in Luhwahwa village, part of the Kasese Rotary Model Village project. |
